Theatre, Television, Film, Fashion, Architecture, Art and Prestigious Public Relations firms. We are at the epicenter of image making in New York and it has a ripple effect the world over. We should take pride in this. We are part of this city and the city is part of us.
I’ve been writing “Ask Sam” for a while now and all of a sudden someone asked me the question: “Why do I do what I do?”
I started my firm, Polished Social Image Consultants twelve years ago. I was literally waiting in the wings to go on stage in a production when I asked myself what do I want to create? What am I good at? What can I give back? I realized that all my talents were somehow inter-related, different mediums all pertaining to the same thing, our multi-faceted images. How we present ourselves, the space we inhabit, the way we interact with the world around us, how we are perceived by others, ultimately becomes our identity.
Everywhere I went, I saw people poorly dressed and badly behaved. I realized that our scruffiness as a society had reached pandemic proportions with global implications. I want to live in a more aesthetic, gentler world.
I view every client as the star of their own romantic comedy. Through a filtered lens of production I ask myself “Who is this character before me? What is their story? What are the scenes in the movie?” Then I do everything within my power, along with a team of experts, to make the character, the set, and the wardrobe a reality. Each person, projected inside out, has the potential to blossom into the leading man or lady they want to be on the stage of their life, with the charisma to captivate their audience.
When people feel good about themselves they are happier, kinder, and more relaxed, and, therefore, more productive. We all reap the rewards.
This is why I do what I do. I’m the producer.
