Snapping Back

The only thing we can count on in life is change. Adaptability is part of our survival. When we are injured we heal and start again. The younger we are, the easier and faster the healing process. Last August, a sprained Achilles made a complete mess of my fall/winter training.

Nine months later, a new attitude is born.

The body needs love, rest and patience to heal.

This is a very different attitude from all those years of enduring pain. 800 calorie a day-mostly lettuce diets and other drastic remedies were waged in an all out war against the body. Incredulous, yet overjoyed that bootylicious is the body-type de jour. Ever thrilled that things still look like late 20’s on the outside, but the inside,… is starting to feel closer to the truth. At physical therapy we fight to crackle, pop and snap back.

May 28th is my third American Heart Association Wall Street 5K Run. Three stents, a will to thrive are my skin in the game. There are many softer, gentler regimens, but running allows for the multi tasking of meditation and exercise.

One day I may be too dead, so I run, because I still can.
